Louis C. Jacob has watched the Elbe since the eighteenth century, with its linden terrace, art-filled rooms and calm Nienstedten setting. In summer 1902, Max Liebermann lodged here while working on views of Hamburg; WELT and the hotel's detailed history independently place the painter at the property. One of the resulting terrace paintings now belongs to the Hamburger Kunsthalle, while the hotel still treats art as part of the stay. This is a rare five-star address whose celebrity story is also German art history.
