Jay-Z at The Thief Oslo: The Verified 2013 Stay

July 18, 2026

Jay-Z stayed at The Thief in Oslo during his October 2013 visit to the Norwegian capital. Contemporaneous Norwegian reporting identified the hotel as his accommodation and photographed him nearby during the visit. A Swedish report then explicitly described an overnight at The Thief, while The Independent later included Jay-Z in the hotel’s guest history.

Celebrity Hotels classifies the relationship as a verified stay with evidence grade B. The sources establish the property and the 2013 visit, but they do not disclose a room, exact reservation length or rate.

The short answer

Se og Hør reported on October 24, 2013 that Jay-Z had stayed at The Thief during his Oslo visit. The article placed him at the nearby Astrup Fearnley Museum on Tjuvholmen the afternoon after his Oslo Spektrum concert and published a recognizable professional photograph from the outing.

Aftonbladet followed on October 25 as Jay-Z traveled from Oslo to Stockholm. Its account said he had spent the night at Petter Stordalen’s luxury hotel The Thief, attributing that overnight detail to Dagbladet. The Swedish article also published a professional photograph of Jay-Z during the same Scandinavian tour sequence.

The Independent’s 2015 review of The Thief later said Jay-Z was among the prominent guests who had stayed there. This is not the source of the 2013 date, but it independently corroborates the property’s Jay-Z guest history.

When did the stay happen?

The contemporaneous timeline centers on Jay-Z’s Oslo concert on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Se og Hør published the next afternoon, reporting that he remained in the capital after the show and was staying at The Thief. Aftonbladet published on Friday, October 25, after he had flown onward to Sweden, and described an overnight at the hotel.

This supports at least one night connected to the Oslo concert. It does not establish the original check-in time, final checkout time or whether his team reserved rooms before or after his own presence. Celebrity Hotels therefore records an October 2013 stay without assigning an exact number of nights.

Later claims that Jay-Z or Beyoncé used the property on another visit should be evaluated separately. This article verifies Jay-Z’s 2013 accommodation; it does not automatically create a joint booking or a recurring preference.

Which hotel was it?

The verified property is The Thief at Tjuvholmen in Oslo, next to the Astrup Fearnley Museum. The Celebrity Hotels listing, the current hotel website and Booking.com all identify the same waterfront property on Landgangen.

The geographic detail is useful because Se og Hør photographed Jay-Z visiting the neighboring museum and explicitly linked that outing to the nearby hotel where he was staying. The museum visit alone would not prove accommodation, but the report directly names The Thief as his hotel.

This is not Oslo’s Grand Hotel or a hotel in Stockholm. Aftonbladet’s article follows his move into Sweden and refers separately to his Stockholm hotel. Keeping those locations distinct prevents one leg of the Scandinavian tour from being assigned to another city’s property.

What the visual evidence adds

The Se og Hør photograph establishes Jay-Z’s recognizable presence on Tjuvholmen during the reported hotel stay. It provides dated context and reduces the risk that a generic celebrity guest list is being attached to the wrong visit.

The image does not show a guest room or check-in. For that reason, the visual material is corroboration rather than the entire basis of the conclusion. The accommodation language comes from the contemporary named-hotel reports and the later independent hotel review.

What the evidence establishes

The sources establish that Jay-Z used The Thief as accommodation during the October 2013 Oslo tour stop. Se og Hør identifies the hotel during the visit, Aftonbladet explicitly records an overnight, and The Independent independently includes him among the hotel’s past guests.

The evidence is stronger than an unattributed fan claim because it is dated, tied to a specific concert itinerary, supported by professional photography and published by multiple news organizations.

The Thief’s current description of rooms, spa and art collection is not used to reconstruct Jay-Z’s booking. The hotel opened in 2013, but room categories, pricing and operations may have changed since the visit.

What remains uncertain

No public guest folio, reservation confirmation, room number, suite name, booking payer or final bill appears in the reviewed sources. The exact number of rooms used by Jay-Z’s party is not established.

The sources do not prove that Beyoncé stayed on this particular visit. Se og Hør specifically reported that she and their daughter were not with him in Oslo. A separate Beyoncé relationship should not be inferred from the couple’s other travel or from later broad claims about famous hotel guests.

Why this receives grade B

Grade B requires strong direct reporting from more than one professional publisher. Se og Hør and Aftonbladet documented the 2013 visit as it happened, including explicit stay or overnight language and recognizable photography. The Independent later corroborated the hotel relationship.

The evidence does not receive grade A because neither Jay-Z nor The Thief publishes an accessible first-party guest confirmation for the visit. Grade B accurately reflects high-confidence, independently reported evidence.

Evidence verdict

Verified: Jay-Z stayed at The Thief in Oslo during his October 2013 concert visit.

Contemporaneously documented: Norwegian reporting placed him at the hotel during the visit, and Swedish reporting described an overnight before his onward travel to Stockholm.

Not verified: Exact check-in and checkout times, number of nights beyond the documented overnight, room or suite, rate, or a stay by Beyoncé on the same Oslo visit.

The result is a high-confidence historical stay with the tour chronology and city-to-city hotel boundary kept explicit.
