Richard Wagner stayed at Grand Hotel et Des Palmes during the winter of 1881-82, finishing the score of Parsifal here in January. That musical history belongs to this Palermo landmark, whose restored interiors still make an entrance feel like an occasion: monumental halls, frescoed ceilings and Art Nouveau stained glass. The hotel began as an Ingham-Whitaker residence before welcoming travellers in 1874.
